Trying to figure out my FRS "Edition"

Hello, this is my first post as I am a new FRS member. I've looked high and low and can't seem to find what I'm looking for. I just recently bought a 2013 Scion FR-S, 14k miles for just a hair under $19k. I was curious about a few things. I've been reading here and there and seeing some different FRS's on youtube and mine seems different than the one's I see and read about. First thing, it has heated front seats, black leather seats with red stitching and 86/FRS stitched into the back rest. It has a metal plate under the TC and VCS controls that has 002 stamped into it, like it's numbered for something. Other than that, everything else seems pretty standard from what I can tell. It's not a push button and doesn't have nav. I don't know if it matters but the sub in the back says 86 edition on it. The other FRS's that I see seem different. If anything I would like to know what the numbered stamp is at least so when people ask me I can do more than just shrug my shoulders at them haha. Thanks for the info!

Hello @Ravenna and welcome to ye ol forum .......:)

As far as I know, the 2013 FR-S, for the US, just came in one model.

Someone will correct me shortly if I'm wrong ...... ;)

Maybe the first owner did some modifications ..... :iono:

There is only 2 types of frs for 2013...
2013 frs and the 10 series..

imaguitar 08-25-2016 01:34 AM

Well the FRS comes in the base, monogram, 10 series, release series 1.0, & the release series 2.0.
I'm pretty sure that both of the release series, & the 10 series are numbered below the gear shift lever.
But I never really heard of any of these special editions having stitching on the seats, or a sub that says 86 edition, or heated seats. Maybe the previous owner did some stuff to it.

The 10 series is numbered on the door panel IIRC.

A picture of your car would say 1000 words. It sounds like aftermarket add ons though.

Seriously. The seats and center plaque could be custom so we really need to see it to know

Thanks for all the info, I'll take some pictures after work today and post them up.

You are correct the number for the 10Series is located by the drivers door underneath the window switches.

Sounds like a dealer special.

Nothing sounds exactly right for anything offered by the factory.

Memories are short... There were 86 numbered FR-S brought in under the 'First 86' sweepstakes program thing. If you have a 3/12 or 4/12 build date that might be it. I'm trying unsuccessfully to find a picture of the number plate right now.

Leather seats, labeled speakers, and seat warmers are likely dealer/aftermarket add-ons, they were never offered from Toyota/Scion in North America.

Edit: The #2 plaque would be aftermarket, one wasn't provided by Scion, @Dadhawk is the only first 86 winner I recognize as still active who would be able to tell if Scion ever delivered on that front.

Edit2: Scion did in fact deliver official plaques for the first 86 cars:

There was also a numbered license plate ring:

So if it looks like that it was #2/86 Scion FR-S delivered in May of 2012, according to the thread I linked above that one was never claimed by a forum member so congrats. However other than the freebies given away with it the car is no different than any other '2013' model year FRS.

All those plaques said 1 of 86 just to show it was limited, they were not uniquely labeled except for the license plate frames iirc

8R6 08-25-2016 01:19 PM

seeing that you say your car is black, sounds like dealer/somebody add ons.

Correct, when we went to Long Beach for the test drive/drift event the group voted to have all the in-car identifiers numbered "1 of 86" rather than individually numbered. Primarily it is because only two people would have been happy, the "1 of 86" and the "86 of 86".

They did number the remaining "limited edition" items. I am "3 of 86" but I'm not sure how they selected the numbers, probably random.
