Shop to convert AT to MT in Socal?
 

This is for a 2017 Toyota 86.. I don't want to sell my car, but I may want to convert someday.. Anyone know of any shops that can/will do the conversion (and still pass smog)? Thanks

I don't know if they do it but I suggest calling blackbeatmotors.

What is the issue with your AT? Maybe you can work with another solution and don't need to convert it...

To sell it and buy a car with a manual will save money and time.

Just sell it and buy a manual. You can easily move your personal items to the new manual car.

It really won't.. Especially if you financed a new Toyota variant. They sell for $30k + tax new for the GT/limited edition, but after a year they are only worth $25k.. That means a dealer would offer around $20-22 for it.. So thats around a 10k loss. Perhaps if someone bought used or something those numbers could work, but I don't see it there for someone who bought new

I would find out what you need to for the conversion. Could be new ECU, maybe gauge cluster, obviously clutch pedal assembly, master cylinders, etc and transmission. Pricing for all of the above not including labor could exceed 6-7k. So potentially you could, with this over estimation, be looking at 10k for a conversion as well. Especially since it's a much newer car.

By the way, carmax might offer you the best appraisal.

I'm hearing guys ebay'ing it and getting the job done for around $1500.. I'm hoping to get the job done around $3-4k if I were to pay a shop, but we'll see

Yep.. It seems like a popular request over the years from all my google searches. I'm surprised there aren't more shops out there (especially in LA area), that would want to/are confident in doing the work *shrug.
