Compilation of Owner-Mentioned Hiccups

Multiple people have stopped by to ask what issues the owners are having, because that is often one of the top questions by people trying to decide on a kit. Slogging through dozens of pages is laborious, so here is a compilation of the hiccups/issues reported by the owners here.

http://i.imgur.com/JvxeCO6.png

The numbers in the grid are the post numbers where the hiccup is mentioned, and the resolution is in parenthesis. "sr" means the issue was self-resolved by the owner, "ic" means the issue was resolved by Innovate/Sprintex; the number inside the parenthesis indicates the post number where the resolution was resolved. For example, xjohnx reported his blower was missing a clip in post 739 of this thread and reported in post 775 of this thread that this was resolved by Innovate/Sprintex.

There are 56 owners currently listed in OP. Of those owners, fifteen of them (26%) mentioned a total of 29 hiccups/issues.

Of those who mentioned hiccups/issues:
20% reported coil failures.
15% suffered a belt failure.
15% suffered a idler pulley failure.
15% discussed the weak/loose plastic elbow fittings.
15% discovered an intercooler coolant leak.
15% had to deal with disintegrating bolts/fasteners.
all other issues were only reported by 1 or 2 people.

Feel free to interpret the data however you wish. I hope it was useful to have it compiled from 174 pages to one image.

Picking up stage 1 Friday. Sorta weak build thread: http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=25212
@DarrenDriven - pls add build thread link to first post

sw20kosh 06-25-2013 11:18 PM

@robispec, @KARtboy and @sw20kosh have production kits

swift996 06-26-2013 12:04 AM

Please add me, I purchased the other day.

DarrenDriven 06-26-2013 01:14 AM

If you guys have a build thread can you post the link? I'll throw your link next to your name at the top.

Draco-REX 06-26-2013 09:07 AM

Stage 1 + Robispec cooling solution on order. It will be a while before I can get it on though, I have a host of other mods to do first.

Big ones are:
Header-back exhaust (Nameless if possible, or P&L)
ACT HD Clutch w/ ProLite flywheel
PST CF Driveshaft

Then there are some chassis bushings and suspension tweaks. Once I get all this stuff on and have a chance to play with the car in "Super NA" spec, then I'll bolt on the SC and get it tuned.

I haven't decided to go with E85 or Meth yet...

swift996 06-26-2013 10:26 AM

I receive mine next Wednesday Update: Monday. I'm going on a vacation Wednesday night. I'm waiting to do the install because I don't have EcuTek, so I'll either have to find a canned tune and install or there are two local tuners who are willing to tune. I plan to go to one of them for the WMI and a revised tune. Just don't know if I will do it all in one swoop. A lot of money on top of the supercharger.

Because I want a lightweight flywheel and there's no point in putting the stock clutch back in if I'm going to have the trans out of the car anyways.

I don't want this topic to turn into the CRAZY random off-topic threads that seem to surround every post about the Innovate S/C, so...

I'll hold off as I might make a separate build thread.

Is it worthwhile to start loading up some details/info in this thread? I was thinking:
- Dynos
- Boost Curve (have seen two pulley sizes now)
- The nugget about IATs pre/post compression
- Tuners supporting the platform
etc.

Since this is just the tuner kit, I think a lot of us will be scrambling for ideas and some guidance on tunes and options. I thought it might be worthwhile to post here. I'm also sure there will be a couple issues that get logged.

tom@kartboy 06-28-2013 01:10 PM

I'm also running the 75mm pulley and our light weight crank pulley. Doing final beta testing on OTS maps for innovate.

mines13 06-28-2013 01:24 PM

I wanna see some billet Kartboy SC and accessory pulleys in different colors and sizes... Machine the Kartboy script in there too... :D

tom@kartboy 06-28-2013 01:26 PM

I'm thinking a carbon/kevlar or carbon/carbon tube. ;)

xxscaxx 06-28-2013 01:43 PM

I have already been brainstorming for doing something different on the tube hehe. I love the sleekness/stock look but I need a little spice in my life.

Yes, I am a sucker for carbon kevlar and CNC machined parts with tool marks... Anything that reminds me of late 80's early 90's F1 makes me feel warm and fuzzy inside...

DarrenDriven 06-28-2013 03:09 PM

I'm going to be running an AEM intake, Rev Works UEL headers, PERRIN 3" front pipe, PERRIN 2.5" over pipe and PERRIN 3" exhaust.

xxscaxx 06-28-2013 03:16 PM

If JDL ever gives an update I will be running their UEL header, stock over/front pipe, and my ARK Exhaust for now.

I'm still worried about this thing being loud and cops love to hand out exhaust tickets in my area. Once I see other dynos, if it makes a huge difference with the rest of the exhaust I will upgrade it.

Wonder if I should upgrade the intake. Didn't even think about that lol.

DarrenDriven 06-28-2013 03:18 PM

At least upgrade the stock filter with a drop-in... seems like that would be a restriction in the air flow otherwise.

xxscaxx 06-28-2013 03:19 PM

Yeah I already have Perrin's drop in so i'm good on that. I'll probably end up just keeping the stock box.

Also will be running:

DW65 Fuel Pump
FIC Injectors
93 & E85 tune

Anyone else going to upgrade their Bypass Actuator to the one @sw20kosh is using?

swift996 06-28-2013 03:46 PM

I plan to but he did that to accommodate the water-meth injection.

I plan to cut my AEM tube and retain the MAF, filter, and AEM box unless I go with a custom cold-air.

sw20kosh 06-28-2013 05:11 PM

The double vacuum nipple replacement actuator can be used with any fail safe system you want to incorporate. Not just for meth.

ftc~brz 06-28-2013 08:33 PM

Brady @ pure automotive just ordered mine.

The stock airbox really reduces the supercharger whine. Robi was running an aluminum cold air intake for a while and that is what you see in his track and dyno videos. Now he is running a stock air box like I am and the whine is muted.

Just an FYI to those looking for max whine... get an aluminum intake pipe. :happy0180:

Unrelated, starting to smell burning clutch after 3rd or 4th gear pulls usually up-hill. Uh oh... I know what my next mod should be....

We'll see if the choice to go ProLite instead of StreetLite was wise... I can see it going both ways.

We have that set-up on our car, it's a great way to loose rotating weight and keep all the extra power on the ground.

You'll lose almost all of the engine noise from the intake because the SC will be in the way. But you'll gain SC whine.
