DIY: Oxygen sensor spacer
Ok guys, I had to make this up tonight so I decided to make a DIY for anyone that needs to make this. Will be needed to keep P0420 codes from vehicles with removed cats, and to prevent it from vehicles with a bad cat. ie: your winter beater with 175k that has a bad cat. You will need, 18mm spark plug non foulers X2 - available at any local parts store. 1/2" drill bit, a way to drill safely. Ok here we go
New spark plug non-foulers: http://i797.photobucket.com/albums/y...ps8c9d8fe1.jpg A way to drill: Drill only one non-fouler: http://i797.photobucket.com/albums/y...ps54480c73.jpg Install drilled non-fouler onto oxygen sensor: http://i797.photobucket.com/albums/y...pse2cfbefc.jpg http://i797.photobucket.com/albums/y...ps2bb6d9ef.jpg Install second non drilled non-fouler: (note, in this picture, I have the gasket on, do not use the gasket, you will get better results that way) http://i797.photobucket.com/albums/y...psa2b4fd8c.jpg http://i797.photobucket.com/albums/y...ps3d3febba.jpg Install into catless header, you could also use this for vehicles throwing P0420 codes: http://i797.photobucket.com/albums/y...psdeda0ee3.jpg Hope this comes in handy for some people. You can buy spacers made specific to your application, but this is cheap, available at local auto stores and can be put together in less than 15 minutes if you have the tools. I take no responsibility for your actions on your cars, or your safety if trying this DIY, please work safe and smart. |

Can you confirm that this mod doesn't bring up and o2 codes ?
|
It will keep codes away once sensor is spaced properly. I had to play with some washers to get the correct depth. Too far out will set a secondary o2 lean code and too far in will still set p0420 code. As it sits right now I get p0420 every maybe 500-1000 miles. So I just clear it. Waiting on tune pending FI purchase.
|
FYI, I performed this mod about 600 miles ago and got a code (P2096-Post Catalyst Fuel Trim System Too Lean). I'll be checking for leaks near the header shortly.
Perhaps the spacer is working too well? I wonder if drilling the small hole on the anti-fouler slightly would fix this. |

spacers are only a temporary fix for our vehicles. only a tune can make it stay off

Some guys in the Houston club swear by the vibrant spacer with the medium insert. They claim 5000 miles with no cel.
Anyone know what thread pitch to order? |
I wound up using just the one drilled spacer and the two washers used in the kit.
