Chevron 94 or CO-OP 91 (Ethanol Free)
Chevron 94 or CO-OP 91
Which will the FR-S run better on? |
I have a similar choice. Petro Canada 94 with ethanol, or Shell 91 without ethanol. It's not much of a difference this time of year, but in the heat of summer, the car runs noticeably better on the 94. The crickets chirp like crazy on the 94 though.

So, ethanols are causing our pump to make noise?

Due to the issues involving detonation/DI seals with our cars, I would always run the highest octane available, especially if you push the car hard. Ethanol supposedly has a cooling effect too, which could also minimize detonation and possibly save your seals.
I can live with crickets and reduced MPG that come with ethanol. |
Chevron Gasoline
Received a reply to my e-mail yesterday from Chevron.
"Thank you for the inquiry, and apologies for the delay in getting a response sent out to you. Your unanswered email was just brought to our attention. As of January 1, 2010, BC's Reformulated Fuel Standard (RFS) requires that an average of 5% renewable fuel content be blended into all gasolines. To meet this mandate, Chevron Canada is now blending up to 10 volume percent ethanol into our Chevron Regular, Chevron Regular Plus, and Chevron Supreme gasolines. Chevron gasolines sold in BC may contain up to 10 volume percent ethanol. Where ethanol blended gasoline is sold, it is present in all three grades mentioned. Up to 10% ethanol by volume. Regarding Supreme Plus (94 octane), it does not contain ethanol nor do we have any plans in the future to add ethanol to the product. Supreme Plus remains a core product in our suite of fuels and we plan to continue to offer it at our BC facilities. The regulations provide sufficient flexibility for us to provide ethanol-free product to our customers on Vancouver Island for all grades of gasoline; and to our customer in the rest of BC for our 94 Octane grade. Please note that this represents the current situation, and the content of our fuels may change in the future, since our products are always clearly labeled as to ethanol content, we will provide notice of any changes. Sincerely, Chevron Fuels Technical Services" |

btw ethanol is dry, it wont lubricate so the crickets will appear , i run 2 stroke oil , ashless smokeless, it leaves absolutly no deposits , and it completly got rid of the crickets, worked wonders. use very light and increase by small amounts , and it also takes a tank or so to take effect, its not instant.

Real Canadian Superstore's gas bars, have 91 Octane that is Ethanol Free.
There is a sticker on the pump indicating that it is Ethanol Free. Quote:
