Hey all,

I've been searching for a few days for an exact answer but I haven't been able to find anything conclusive.

What is a normal range for oil pressure for our engines stock? How about with an oil cooler and a turbo?

What is a healthy range that the oil pressure should stay between at all times?

Below is the template everyone should follow to report oil pressures.

• Oil brand, type, and weight
• Mods such as oil cooler, boosted, or stock
• Sensor location
• Location (Country, State, ect)
• Ambient Temperature
• PSI at 180F, 190F, 200F, 210F at idle
• PSI at each 1k RPM once car is warm
• Max PSI seen at redline once car is warm

Optional:
Pictures, videos, ect.

I would hazard a guess that our cars are spec'd for a viscosity of ~7 cST @ 100C, based on the fact that the stock 0W-20 is rated for that. So in saying that, our cars run hot when being beat on, that raises the temp up to 110-120-130 degrees celsius, so from that I would conclude that the stock 0W-20 at those temps drops to a viscosity rating of ~4-5 cSt which in my mind is not good. but if ya want to keep using the OEM Mobil 0W-20, that I would think having a thermostatically controlled oil cooler would be good investment.

EDIT: this doesn't tell you what pressure you will get, but will give you an idea of what oil you should run based off temp to ensure oem designed oil pressure is maintained.

Thanks for your post. I personally am using amsoil 5w-30, with an oil cooler and the fbm kit. I'm ordering an oil pressure gauge soon and wanted to know what kind of psi i should be looking for at each end of the spectrum.

Oh, I'd say that if you got a gauge that would read between 5 and 85 psi, you would catch the entire range.

Oh ok perfect! I was looking at a gauge that maxes out at 100psi and I didn't know what kind of an operating range our motors hit. Thanks!

Still would like to know healthy limits as well though.

I've read where the minimum is about 7 psi and the operating range is about 10 psi for every 1,000 rpms.

......just from what I've read ..... I've nevered measured it.

You need a 150psi gauge. The oil pump goes into full bypass at 125psi. I routinely see 100-125psi on cold start with a low load on the engine.

I typically see about 1 bar per 1k rpm at operating temperature (90-100C) with 0w-20.

Cold start, i get about 8.9 bar (129 psi)

Idling at normal operating temperature, oil pressure would around 1.3-1.5 bar

5w30, Perrin oil cooler, Defi Advance CR oil pressure gauge hooked up to the oil gallery port beside the AC compressor

Then I hooked them up to the port beside the compressor

Take note that the OEM Subaru oil gallery plug is threaded for 1/8 PT sensors.

You can probably use the stock oil pressure sensor location. It's pretty useless anyway. By the time the warning light turns on, the damage has already been done. It's the sensor below the oil filter housing, the one with the disconnected connector in the photo:

Been driving around with the stock oil pressure sensor disconnected. No CELs. I believe it's a simple switch that grounds itself to the block when there is no pressure detected, illuminating the warning lamp on the cluster. Hope this helps.
