Car has 93,000 miles should I be worried
 

One owner clean Carfax. 6 speed limited for 13k. Also I hear their is a recall on the 2013 twins for valve springs . I was generally looking for lower mileage but the car presents as very clean and at that mileage I’m thinking mostly highway not stop and go

2013 with that mileage for 13k?

We don’t know anything about the car except the year and mileage, how can this forum tell if you should be worried or not? The recall will be performed for free, so I wouldn’t fret over that too much. You are looking at a first year model vehicle with nearly 100k miles... the purchase would not be without risk.

Don’t know a ton. Dealer has good reviews, one opener, no accidents. With Miata’s 100k is nothing, not sure about the twins. Is timing belt lifetime? Consumer reports puts them at very reliable

If the car is at 93k and no other issues, I'll say it doesn't have the valve spring issue.

That being said, it is a high mileage engine. So something might be in its way out. It could be a water pump, or head gaskets, who knows. You may get lucky and be fine for another 100k.

It is a NA subbie engine and they do have a rep for being long lasting engines.

Also $13k for 90k is too high. $11k is what it's worth.

Yeah not a lot of information so it's hard to say-especially if you don't know who the owner is. 13k is a lot for a car that'll be at 100,000 in a few months of ownership. That being said, it is a pretty reliable engine. It just depends on what you want and what you value in a car. Does it have all the options and features you want? What are your plans for the car? Do you mind the high mileage or is it just a number? I think you can find a good , newer 6 speed model for like 2 grand more if you look hard enough. Do some research and ask other owners with high mileage twins for information. I'd save up for a better car or offer no more than 10 grand for that one. Good luck man :)

Sounds a bit high in price

I drive a 2015 FRS with 56,500 miles on my car.
My car was just under 26,000 dollars new.

Trade in value: 11,393
Private party sale: 13,431

Man, they sure lose value when you put miles on them.
I was hoping to trade for a new BRZ series Gray, seeing my value, guess I'll drive mine into the ground instead.

It's got a timing chain. There might be something in the owner's manual about replacing it eventually (I forget) but it shouldn't be anything you have to worry about soon.

Then again from personal experience (cousins car) '04 Forester has over 200k with no head gasket issues.
Then his wife's newer '08 outback got it at 90k so who knows? Hit or miss.

Mine is at 108k now and in the 90's things started to wear out. The clutch finally gave up the ghost at ~105 and now the rear hub bearings are crapping out and the plugs and serpentine belt probably ought to be done soon too. Other than that it's been regular maintenance stuff like a couple of sets of tires, rear rotors and pads at ~85 and the fronts were just replaced for the first time at 106. There were a couple of issues like the timing cover needed to be resealed and the steering column was replaced but those were (thankfully) under warranty. You should see if you can find a service history on the car before jumping in. I also don't think it's worth much over $10k, maybe 11 if it's rust free and the paint is in good shape.

The Twins have a timing chain not a belt. Unless something goes dreadfully wrong it does not have to be changed at a certain interval like a belt does. This is not a worry since they don't eventually stretch or wear like a belt does.

For reference, over a year ago I got my 2013 with 72k miles for $12k. Clean car, no damage, one owner with clean carfax.

I'd say that car would fetch 10-11k at most.

I wouldn't pay 13K, as others say.

Anytime you buy a high mileage car you take a risk. You don't know if the previous driver was flat-foot shifting or doing donuts, etc.

Alternatively, someone looking for a Corolla with 93K miles might find something the looks awesome, but the previous owner only changed the oil every 20,000 miles. Thus when it fails they are baffled because everyone talks about reliability with that model.

If you're worried about it, save up some more cash and get a '14 or '15 with 60K or less miles.
