REPLACEMENT TYRES

Hi Guys,

I'm looking at replacing my tyres(16" YOKOHAMA dB E70) which have recently done about 55000KM.

Could you please recommend a good replacement tyre and supplier in Johannesburg.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

there are a couple of recommendations on the "suppliers thread" in the SA section...

LBA86 04-13-2016 08:05 AM

Thanks a million for that...........would you mind sending me a link to the SA supplier site.....i'm having difficulty navigating the site.

Thanks a million!

I replaced mine at about 53000km with Yokohama dB V550's from Tiger Wheel and Tyre on special at about R800 each a while back. A little bit more predictable than the E70's were but nearly 20000km in no sign of any issues... Depends on how much grip you want... :bonk:

Bridgestone RE002 were very good on mine. I did a write up a while ago comparing some tires I've used on the 86 on this forum. NFI on how to find it though.

I want to cry...
I don't think I've ever had 50,000kms out of a set of tyres, ever, in 45 years.

With my 86, I'm on my 7th set of tyres in 70,000kms, and wondering what to try next, because what I got now is rapidly heading towards end of life.

Maybe I need driving lessons - @Vic_RSA what you doing this weekend? :)

As said before, it depends how much grip you want. If you were happy with the standard tyre why not put them on again?

I'm on 48000km on my standard Michelin Primacy's and it looks like they still have around 50% tread left. :eyebulge: For the track I managed to source a set of semi's so when the time comes to replace the street tyres I'll just replace them with the standard tyre.

I'm 40,000k in on the std tyres too.
@Fisheagle ... you're lucky.

I got about 3-400km out of a back tyre and MAYBE 800km out of a front depending on the track conditions when I was racing.... aaaaand... hence the reason I don't anymore (Just too expensive for R3000 rubber that lasted 1 day!)

Feel free to add to it if you manage to track down any other good suppliers in SA - our choices are much more limited than the EU or USA.

So we all use our cars differently. If you are getting 55k from tyres you probably don't neet the grip of Michelin Sport Cup 2's.

How about Primacy 3 (R1.3k each) or Conti SportContact 2 (R1k Each)

No real performance tyres available in 16s, and most of them are relatively cheap, so might as well buy the best if they last that long.

THANKS GUYS!! REALLY APPRECIATE ALL THE RECOMMENDATIONS AND COMMENTS!

RE002 FTMFW!!!!!! I don't even care how long they'd last, they're awesome.

This is true and I agree (mostly), but more grip is also safer.
The stock tyres on mine have only lasted cos I do the daily traffic runs :barf: otherwise they'd have been a lot more abused by now.

And of course increasing power would mean more grip is probably a good idea.

But yeah - 'race tyres' on the road would be a bit of a waste.

True, but nothing grippy widely available in that size.
