Opinions on BBKs
So my 16 BRZ is a DD and the stock brakes are perfect. In fact I barely even use my brakes on my 78 mile round trip commute. So there is no need for me to upgrade for performance.
But I got new wheels (pro race 1.2 in anthracite gloss) and a BBK would look so good front and rear. So looking for opinions on which way to go, 4pot/2pots, used STI brembos, Other bbks. Obvious I do not want to break the bank pun intended. No tracking or even auto x and I live in NY so dust boots are probably a must. Yes I have searched most kits, just want to see what others would do. |
I suggest you look into getting the OEM performance pack brakes if you are in it for the looks. They will be street friendly and require minimal upkeep and work correctly with the car and no worries about daily driving on them although I imagine they will be a bit more expensive than other options.

Since it is mainly for looks I'd pick whatever kit appeals to you the most as long it is made for the car and by a reputable manufacturer.
In terms of feedback, even though you want it for looks, I've beat the hell out of the basic 328mm Stoptech kit (it was around $1800 for the fronts) on the track for the past three years and it is still in great shape. I've had the basic Brembo kits on other cars they are excellent as you'd expect. For more budge-friendly kits take a look at Willwood (caveat: I wouldn't use their stuff for the track even though others do. For street, no problem). |
You should just get fancy rotors, they'll look cool and that's all you're going for.
There are brackets you can use to get bigger rotors (at least in the front) and reuse the stock calipers (way cheaper than a real BBK). I don't understand cosmetic mods (especially on performance parts), but whatever floats your boat. You should spend the money on seat time at a track or doing autox, you'll enjoy it more. You could do a full season of autocross for less than the cost of a cheap BBK, or 3-4 trackdays. |
There are plenty of less expensive options, but I will throw this option out there:

Yeah I agree, I keep getting compliments on the car but whenever I look at those calipers, I cringe. But for some reason every kit I look at only has the fronts? Following this thread with interest cause I also wanna get something that looks good. When I go FI, in the future, it'll come in handy as well.

The fronts do almost all the braking work, there is no reason to upgrade the rears. The AP Sprint kit is what I run and I love mine. If you are looking for performance that's the one I'd recommend without hesitation.

For me this made a big difference and was waaaaaaay cheaper than a bbk. If money isn’t an object I believe the AP racing kit is amazing. |
Buying a BBK just for looks?
At least you are willing to admit it. I painted my calipers and since added perfomance is no biggie here why not just do that? There are guys out there that can do it for you I'm sure. And if that's not enough just add drilled rotors. Slotted might accelerate pad wear too much. A lot less costly. Buy yourself a nice watch with the money you save. That is blng that is functional. Your welcome! |
Least costly BBK to fill big wheels :)

Dude I have the perfect solution!!!!

Here's an actual budget front brake upgrade:

Almost every other front-only BBK will shift brake bias forward even more than stock. The AP Sprint kit is subtle since they're not huge or painted bright red, but they look plenty cool to me. The ricer in me likes the look of BBKs too. |
For looks only===paint, see if you like it.
Then covers for a little more bling. |
