Hydraulic Steering Swap
I have been contemplating moving to a hydraulic steering rack, and I need some help from people who have done it before. I use my car for drifting and run partshopmax angle kit, also have an LS engine swap. After 1 or 2 runs while drifting, my steering loses all power steering while drifting.
I need to know if anyone has done a swap to hydraulic (alot of pro drifters have done it), what they recommend, and a little more knowledge about the install. |
Anyone?

I have seen people go to a Nissan hydraulic rack from s14 Silvia or 240sx. If I went hydraulic I would get a electric power steering pump from a Mazda to keep a pump, and pulley off my accessories drive. Still hydraulic it would just be pumped with an electric motor instead of driven by the crankshaft.

Ole @humfrz has a really neat solution, currently residing on a Deer tractor..

Is your power steering motor overheating and going into protection mode?

So I think I have figured out the problem. I am running PBM angle kit, which works for really lowered cars. As my car is higher than the typical car running the PBM angle kit, when I apply lock, the ball joint on the control arm maxes out earlier than it should as they are made to work with the car being much lower. Not sure if any of you have heard of this before. I can easily send some pics if you guys would like to know more.
