Lowering Spring Installation DIY

I have had the Eibach Pro-Kit on my FR-S for about a week now, with over 200 miles of spirited driving on the street and in the mountains. I am extremely happy with this product as it simply improves the driver's experience with a slightly stronger connection to the road without being overly harsh.

The drop is advertised as a 1.0" front and rear, although my 2013 FR-S was only lowered 7/8" evenly at all four corners. That is close to an inch, but with the car riding so high to start off with I wish that the error would have been in the other direction. The new look simply removes the unsightly wheel gap that plagues the Scion. The front spring rate is increased by 56% (3.6kg/mm vs 2.7kg/mm stock) and the rear by 29% (4.9kg/mm vs 3.8kg/mm stock) and although this sounds a little extreme, some coilover kits have four times the stiffness of the stock springs.

These springs aren't harsh. Road feel is improved, but I don't cringe when I see a ripple, pothole or driveway. The car has a tendency to bounce just a bit more under aggressive driving on extremely rough surfaces, though, and I would definitely recommend upgrading the dampers (shocks) as a complimentary modification if you plan to take driving seriously. Around town you could easily live with the stock shocks (until they die, possibly)

I would recommend these springs for the BRZ/FR-S owner who simply wants to remove the 4WD look of the car without resorting to any extreme measures. The Eibach brand is an industry staple and customer satisfaction is high. This is a safe bet at a good price.

looks nice! I don't ever upgrade springs without upgrading shocks though.

Well, I have coilovers on the way but I simply couldn't look at the car any longer with the nosebleed altitude.

One thing I don't understand.

How do they measure the spring rates on a progressive coil design?
Did they measure the rate of the first, middle or last section of compression??

Good review. but at the looks of that, I'm going to need at least a 2" drop. I will have nothing less than HELLA FLUSH.

These: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Tein-Tech-Sp...449c6a&vxp=mtr

Look like they could give a bit more of a drop. I'm curious as to what Megan Racing will provide since they always seem to give a lower drop than others.

damn that looks good but not enough drop for me either, i was hoping i could avoid coilovers but maybe not....

DarrenDriven 07-09-2012 01:19 PM

The Eibach Sportline springs are a 1.4" drop all around, those are another good alternative to coilovers if you want to save $$$.

thanks for the review! did you by chance take a before and after picture of the wheel gap from the fender to the wheel at close range? id love to see those as well if you did.

Not up close, I didn't. Shoot.

Seems like 19 inch wheels and the lowest drop springs might achieve a decent flush status. But 18 inch wheels and smaller will probably need coilovers.

its all good. all you really have to do is get another board member with the same color car to take the stock height photo, then you yourself take the photo of your car as it is now. Overall, looks really good, what shocks are you eventually switching to once the stockies go?

DarrenDriven 07-11-2012 02:20 AM

I have coilovers on the way, these springs are just temporary until the coilovers show.
