Uel catted jdl header noise
Uel catted, thermal coated jdl header. First experience with after market header.
Installed by mechanic Wednesday, small sound coming from header. Did stage 2 oft tune Friday, small sound stayed the same. Sound was present in low rpm ranges, especially when stopping and accelerating from stop. Today, sound got signicnantly louder and can even be heard during more rpm ranges. https://youtu.be/9mCVef8TKsw Most noticeable in first 7 seconds of video. |

Getting a power loss between 2500-3000 rpm. Still haven't had a chance to get underneath the car yet. Any recommendations? |
dont quote me, but I think you are supposed to run the OFT Stage 1 tune with catted UEL header

i'm okay with minimal power gains, just completely not okay with power or throttle losses. |
you will often notice different noises with aftermarket headers due to different construction and use of high flow metalic cats instead of ceramic cats, the metalic ones seem to let more high frequency noise through. you will ofen notice more ticking and whooshing type noises, just check you dont have an exhaust leak, if you can smell exhaust fumes under bonnet you will generally have a leak

is it recommended to use new gaskets? My car only has 19k miles on it. I just used the same gaskets.

alright, thanks again.
Gaskets ordered. |
Finally got it up on the lift and here is the culprit.
http://i65.tinypic.com/2i1o86f.jpg Rubbing on the skid plate. Solution, banged out the skid plate a little and added a spacer near the area where contact was. Now it sounds great. The loss of power is still a mystery though. I also cleaned my MAF sensor and haven't had any issues since. |
