How are you going to modify your FRS?
Personally, i can't afford one right now and probably wont attempt to get one until they depreciate. Although, after watching a lot of videos and reviews, i think i have an idea of how i'm going to modify the car.
My plans: Power Supercharger or Turbocharger (preferably turbo) Custom exhaust system Weight Back seat delete Carbon fiber driveshaft Enkei RPF1s Stripping down trunk/back seat areas Carbon Fiber hood Handling Dunlop Direzza Star Spec tires Front Strut tower bar Front sway bar kit APR GT-200 Carbon Fiber Spoiler Custom Camber alignment Coilovers Minimal Goal 235whp 2,500lbs P2WR: 10.5 Maximum Goal 285whp 2,500lbs. P2WR: 8.8 What are your plans, if any? |
for this summer i have rims and five axis 5 pc kit coming in then ill do coil overs followed by and exhaust and intake when they come out after the summer hopefully a tune will come out so i can turbo my car...those are my plans

About your turbo, how much power do you want to make? |

I plan on running stock for a while- get used to manual and learn the car's strengths and weaknesses all while waiting for solid mods to come out. Inba year's time, there will be a huge selection of every kind of part along with reviews, R&D, and time to research for myself. By then all of the forced induction kits will be fine tuned along with much more ECU tuning- chips, flashes, etc.
suspension -KW, JRZ, or Nitron coil overs -Cusco, Tanabe, or TRD strut tower bars -Cusco, Tanabe, TRD,or ST sway bars -camber adjustment for lowering- well see what comes out brakes -Brembo, TRD, StopTech, or Endless big brake kit -Stainless brake lines -matching pads power -HKS GT Supercharger kit -ARC airbox (or some kind of carbon fiber heat shield / box.) -Custom intake manifold / HKS if in kit. -GReddy, HKS, etc. Titanium exhaust -ARP studs -cometic head gaskets -port, polish, multi-angle valve job. ECU -E-Manage Ultimate, F-CON, chip, flash: whatever ends up being the most flexible, best option for small mods which can be adjusted as more are installed. We'll see how the stock clutch holdsup. Most likely a clutch masters, blitz, exedy cclutch with a lightweight flywheel. Twin clutch? =] hmm.... |

EDIT: Another thread also reminded me-- for weight reduction i'd get a Braille 11lb. battery. |
First order of business is probably going to be winter preparation. We don't get a lot of snow around here (in fact, we got basically none last winter) but a decent set of winter tires/cheap wheels are on the top of my list.
After that I'm a little more open. A spoiler at some point is a must. I don't want anything totally gaudy but the current low-profile ones like the one on the BRZ or the TRD one don't do anything for me either. Waiting on other options. A supercharger would be nice at some later point but that's down the road a good ways. I'm not really in favor of a turbo solution for this car. |

I'm gonna go with these mods initially
Exterior: TRD Front TRD Side TRD Rear TRD Spoiler Performance: Amuse full titanium exhaust HKS Supercharger* F-Con V Pro tuning* HKS Cams HKS intake Oil Cooler Footworks: HKS Hipermax Coilovers Cusco tower bars etc Braking: AP 6pot in front and 4pot in rear Wheels: haven't decided, probably gonna go with a set of RE30 in 19" staggered Bridgestone RE11 tires Interior: a Pair of Bride bucket seat HKS Camp 2 multi display probably upgrade the sound system a bit I think this will be enough for a street tune, and should be quite a bit faster than stock. |
Just curious, some of you guys seem to have quite a few expensive-sounding mods planned. What kind of budget do you have in mind for all these upgrades?

For myself I am interested in getting the most out of the FA20. Im not looking for peak power. Im looking to optimize the power thats already available and have a tighter flywheel to hub margin.
To do that i have to target problems the FA20 are facing in terms of optimized performance. -EL headers with a better collector will always warrant the best gains on a n/a boxer4. -D4-S gives us the best fuel range per stroke possible, but like all cars, are factory tuned for a balance of emissions and performance and not total performance. This is evident seeing 10.AFRs on the powerband during dyno runs. -heat soak and AITs could always be better on boxer4. -tighter timing adjustments to favor advancement, and better AVCS characteristics. -Head flow and valving could always be considered. Even Performance Yamaha heads could use some work. -stronger and lighter internals will help friction losses to a minimum. ... etc Bolt ons add power, and like most turbo cars they mask performance gains on the level of optimization. Im trying to avoid as much bolt on performance as possible. My ideals spawn from how Mines tuned their R34 GTR. What they looked for was making a factory setup better, not peak power. Which is why it performs much more better around a track than similar tuned GTRs with boasts 10-40% more wheel power. |
Im reluctant on headers only because it is a manifold/cat assembly. Do you guys feel an after market performance eader will meet emmission laws? I mean sure we could always swap back to oem but i always hate dealing with smog laws

I would like to get the most power out of the FA20 N/A by whatever ways come out that can squeeze the most power out of it. Dont get me wrong i love turbo's but in my opinion there's something so much more pure and real about an N/A car.
