I’ve gotten so used to it, it could feel weird if the 2nd gen doesn’t have the torque dip [emoji28]

Some power chips to go with the torque dip perhaps?

x2. This happens a lot in the OEM world. What we do know is that it's based off the same chassis architecture (which is a good thing)

it could very well be just another facelift, but looking back people said the same thing when they saw this test car. the click-bait media reported that we were getting an IS-F convertible, but it turn out to be a test mule for the Lexus RC.

My "couldn't imagine" statement was probably a bit off. Yes I know there are standard cars out there with functional vents. It is just not the norm is what I probably should have said :bonk: They gravel our roads here in the winter. I would have to tape those bastards off.

Yeah I get it. In my case it wouldn’t make much difference, with track alignment and cup 2 tires I already get everything thrown onto the side panels :bonk:

With some grille/mesh like the 14R60 or some of the other examples mentioned before, I think it would be fine.

Yes it could be a test mule for some upgrades or there could be something well hidden (As I said). Comments such as "we do know is that it's based off the same chassis architecture" is what I was countering. It IS the same chassis. This is not a second gen version of the car as it is so making such statements is silly. There are people here that swear the body lines are different and the car is a different size. It isn't! It is just a plain old body with a wonky bumper, some vents and a flair on the trunk lid. It is just a face lift "mule" probably checking out some suspension tweaks, the aero and whatever those vents are going to do.
We will see in a year or so.

yes i agree that it appears to be the same exterior shell. we also have to keep in mind that test mule have different stages of development. IF this is anything related to 86 2.0 i think what @NoHaveMSG said is more pausable (early stage testing).

Probably just testing a different engine/drive train combo in the existing chassis.

I agree, the exhaust tips look very cool. Quarter panels look different so maybe this is a mixture of 1st and 2nd gen?
And I *think* it looks like a longer wheelbase because of the camo playing tricks. But that could be a change for the 2nd gen also. I want to know which motor it will have!! [emoji28][emoji28][emoji28]

specs from Bestcar has the same wheelbase.

that makes sense. rumors are saying Subaru is taking the lend with the 2nd gen developments.

Depends on which model you compare it to...

If the posted specs for the next gen are correct and the M/T does weigh 1250 kg (2756 lbs)

then it's 20 pounds lighter than a current USDM base model 86 manual which weighs 1259 kg (2776 lbs)

and 77 pounds lighter than a 2020 BRZ tS which weighs 1285 kg (2833 lbs)

The current stripped down JDM models weigh 1210 kg (2667 lbs) with no A/C, no sound system, no spoiler, no spare & 16" wheels.

Where did these numbers come from?
I've seen it floating around for the last little awhile and was wondering how they even came to such numbers (its fairly specific)....

Closest thing i could think of is the 86 GRMN with the 216hp/160lbft FA20.

^^^ I would not expect any more than that on the next BRZ/86, if you do......
